Greatest looper but not true stereo

The RC-300 is great, I use it synced to the RC-505 of the singer in the band, BUT there is one big flaw with all the BOSS loopers: they are NOT TRUE STEREO!
Yes surely on the output ( real detailed panning), but all the wonderful stereo fx you made your sound BEFORE you go into the RC-300/505 ( e.g. stereo delays Time line or stereo arpegiators fx of your synth) are back in the mono stew again. That is a pity, big time.
I come from the Pigtronix and the Ditto 2+ and they are true stereo..
How come nobody ever talked about this in any of the reviews I read?
The user manual does admit it. Too bad!
For looping with a couple of parts it is so essential to creat stereo signal, other wise you still sound as one instrument.

For the rest the RC?s are superb. Of course: with more possibilities comes more thinking and manual reading but I?m still amazed how the inventors at BOSS ( the mothers of all the loopers) made it relatively easy.
The automatic detection of the tempo make it also so easy.
I just hope they will fix this stereo thing, but I suppose it is too deep in their way of processing that they will not go that way (since nobody ever noticed anyway:)
I?m a little jealous by now on the 5 tracks of the looper of our singer, I have only 3. :(

The best loop pedal by a mile

This is the perfect loop pedal, no question.

I bought this somewhat begrudgingly: desiring a cheaper pedal but requiring one that allowed you to dial in and quantise to specific tempo values - without having to rely solely on tap tempo or perfectly time foot stomps that always resulted in loops gradually falling out of sync with other players, synth sequences and programmed drum tracks.

So I bought this pedal over the other (much cheaper) alternatives solely for this feature. Gladly I do not feel like the extra money was wasted.

The RC-300 is so much more than a loop pedal. It's 3 loop pedals in one, with the ability to recall different settings on the fly using intuitive controls so you can have entirely different functionality for each song on your set list. It also features an additional FX footswtich and expression pedal that can be assigned to control parameters or function as a range of completely independent effects that all come built in - such as: distortion, phaser, tremolo, chorus.

If you need an all singing all dancing, and extremely versatile loop pedal then this is it. Especially if you are prone to clumsy, poorly times foot stomps.

There is much better out there

I tried this out and had a really hard time with it. It won't sync with external devices other than another RC300, and that is it's major flaw. Boss are pushing midi around too much. The internal rhythms are ok, but not nearly as good or as versatile as our beat buddy, so it needs to be able to run as a slave. We also tried the Pigtronix infinty and that synced just fine and easily but the PIG has it's own flaws. e.g. it won't save the number of bars in loop 1 so when you save a set reloading it involves a long winded secratarial endeavour. Back to the Boss, with 99 songs it can store a few sets and some in reserve, good enough for any duo, but the sequencing of the 3 tracks is tricky. Overall I would rather wait for Boss to realise there are better ways to arrange things and bring out a simpler looper without rhythm which will sync properly with other devices. Hopefully the foorprint would be a bit smaller as well.

Good unit but not flawless

I used this unit for some time and I find it quite good. Very powerful machine allowing lots of scenarios and actions. However some bugs brings a bit of shadow on the main product. I am facing small issues with it.

Pros:

1. Very powerful machine for creating scenarios
2. Very well built, good quality machine
3. Sounds great for what it does.
4. Probably the best out in the market at the time.

Cons:
1. Mine freezes on certain banks. I avoided those banks but the bug is there.

2. Using fade out would fade out your recorded content but not the drums that goes with it. Quite useless feature if you ask me ...

3. Volumes are not in sync. I decide to play and record 100% of the volume on a track, as I play my recorded patch it goes louder than the played patch.

4. Expect to invest some time into learning to use the features if you want to use it at full capacity. I use only a part of its features.

5. The drums options are rather limited and I am not aware if there's a possibility to enhance the library. Also because of midi use, the drums sound rather dully.

6. Allows you to put out a full tune for the show but it doesn't come close to the "band" feeling. Still work to be done in sound and variety in possible actions.

7. After using it over an year a new bug is into place: can't hear the input. I only hear what I record. This unit is a lottery ... mine turned to be full of bugs.
